Why you should start writing, drawing or whatever instead of playing games
Don’t you ever ask yourself what did you achieve for yourself? I have always been attracted by concrete as well as “useless” things. Often by things that doesn’t bring anything but could sometimes be paramount to relax.
Relaxing, chilling or whatever is essential to appreciate life but aren’t primordial in case it brings a quick and ephemeral rewards. To my mind playing games almost all the day is a waste of time. You would like to ask why as playing games has many advantages, dare you?
Indeed with online games you could and certainly learn a lot. Whether it is about team communication, concentration, coordination… You could even learn a new language but not too much in some cases and for certain people like me.
Nowadays, there are lot of time-wasting hobbies that provide instant satisfaction as watching movies, series, playing games, scrolling social networks… However are you the protagonist? You can persuade yourself that is a passion. It is fine to play or watch series but to my mind not healthy when is it too much still below the addiction threshold. Especially when you have abilities or the potential to improve in one area.
Mostly you’re passive in these kinds of hobbies and therefore you have less of a situation to practice a specialty or discover a domain. Certainly it takes longer to obtain a result but should be deeper. Also it is more satisfying and can bring you pride or money.
On the one hand you may convince yourself that you have nothing to do or want instant pleasure. On other hand you can be an actor by trying to build something.
I was for a while in this situation. My trigger was to get out of my comfort zone by going to Norway for my studies. With only a poor level of English in my bag ( still accurate but working on it 🙂 ).
In Norway, I didn’t bring my pc master-race with me and it avoids me to play games. I’ve broken the habit of playing with my friends online and it forced me to do more useful things.
I started a diary about my journey there and i found that enjoyable and entertaining. It didn’t take too much time except at the beginning. As you have to create understandable and pleasant sentence to read.
This is a way to express one’s ideas. Progress are satisfactory, you can only improve and that’s one of the best measures of effort. Take it like a challenge even if you make many grammatical mistakes.
By researching writing topics you will get to know what you like and deepen your expression. Mark and share your story. Leave a record of what you’ve done over time. You will get the same kind of accomplishment by drawing, programming, or making videos. I guess doing concrete things is the key to being fulfilled and not be a possible ignorant asshole.
